iPhone 6 5.5-inch could hit this year after all

Apple’s much rumoured 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could be launched this year after all, according to a reputable analyst’s report.

iPhone 6

Previous reports suggested that Apple would launch a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 towards the end of this year, but that a second, larger iPhone device would slip into next year.

This larger iPhone is set to have a 5.5-inch display, mirroring some of the Android 'phablets' we’ve been seeing in recent years.

Now, however, a report from Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian White has given super-sized smartphone fans a lift. Now and then White heads out to the Far East to get some solid (well, more solid) details on Apple’s production plans.

As noted by BGR, White previously predicted the arrival of the iPad mini in this way, as well as the arrival of a colourful iPhone 5C.

This time, White’s research trip indicates that "Apple will launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 in September," which we kind of already suspected.

However, he adds that "we believe the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 could be announced at a similar time or shortly thereafter in October. As such, we are confident that the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 will be launched this year."

Given that reports back in April pointed to production issues related to the 5.5-inch model’s battery, that’s quite a turn-around.

It’s also interesting because numerous sources (including White) suggest that Apple will also launch the iWatch in September or October of this year. So that will be three new form factors from Apple within a very short space of time.
