It seems like we might have a pretty good idea of what we're getting with the Nexus 6
as most leaks and sources are saying the same things about it,
including that it will have a 5.9-inch QHD display with a pixel density
of 496 pixels per inch.
An unnamed source for Android Police
echoes that information, but the site is so confident in its veracity
that it goes so far as to 'confirm' it, and as well as reiterating
existing information a few new details are revealed.
Tips, tricks, and hidden features explained for all popular smartphone models. News and reviews from the smartphone world.

HTC One M8 Max phablet specs promise Note-matching grunt
It's a busy, busy, busy over at HTC HQ these days. The Taiwanese company has an event in New York next month, a rumoured Google Nexus 9 tablet on the way and now, apparently, it's also working on a new phablet.
The so-called HTC One M8 Max is the subject of a new specs report from Chinese website My Drivers. The report was picked up by BGR and appears to show that HTC is getting some serious grunt together for its next device.

Best "To-do" list managers
Finding the right tool to track your to-dos is highly personal, and one person's best is another's junk—but there are some that are better than others. The best offer great syncing and scheduling options, great apps, notifications and reminders, or just the right mix of features and flexibility that make it easy to stay organized. Here are five of the best.
Not only is Google Keep simple, available on the web and for Android (sorry, iOS users), but it's fast, flexible, and easy to use. At its heart, Keep is a simple syncing notepad that can keep checklists, photos and images, voice notes, and other text notes synchronized across devices and stored in the cloud. It supports time and location-based reminders, in-note photos, and color-coded notes. Everything is stored on the web, it's easy to use, and if you're an Android user, it's practically there for you already—no hassle, and it's already on your device. There's no real barrier to entry—no accounts to set up, no lists to import or categories to set up, and so on.

Another report claims that Windows 9 will be free for Windows 8 users
The noise around Windows 9 is reaching fever pitch ahead of its potential unveiling at a San Francisco event on September 30, with the latest rumour once again pointing to the OS being released as a free download for certain users.
This particular report comes from Indonesian online publication Detik, which quotes Microsoft Indonesia CEO and President Director Andrew Diantoro as saying that Windows 9 will be made available to download as a free update - if Windows 8 is already installed on the device.

HTC One M8 Eye rumoured to boast twin 13MP cameras
HTC has hinted photography is going to be a key part of its October 8 announcement in New York and speculation is rife we could be about to see a new handset.
Along with a periscope-shaped camera, it's rumoured the Taiwanese company will be showing off a new handset named the HTC M8 Eye - note the loss of the 'One' moniker, although this is far from confirmed.
According to Android site Phandroid, the Eye will be a version of the HTC One M8 but with a 13MP Duo camera rather than the 4MP UltraPixel snapper in the current version.

Google heavily tips Android Lollipop for new OS title
The next iteration of Google's mobile OS was unveiled
earlier this year with nothing more than the letter "L" as its
designation.
Anyone familair with Android will be aware that the major releases proceed in alphabetical order and are named for some kind of sweet or desert: KitKat, Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich being the last three.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 - first impressions
Back in 2011, Samsung decided that bigger was better and
launched the Samsung Galaxy Note range which came with a 5.3-inch
screen. At the time, this screen was a massive talking point: many
thought it was too large to be a phone, others thought it was too
compact to be a tablet.
Skip three years and that 5.3-inch screen no longer looks out of place in the phone market. Given that the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with a 5.1-inch screen, it's clear to see the line between what was once classed as a phablet and what is now expected as a phone has well and truly blurred.

Asus Zenfone 6 review
Key Features: 6-inch 1,280 x 720 pixel IPS screen; 16GB storage; 2GB RAM; 2GHz Intel Atom Z2580 CPU
Manufacturer: Asus
The Asus Zenfone 6 is the largest model in Asus’s new phone line-up – a set of phones out to establish Asus as a real phone brand. It gets you a 6-inch screen, and both a better processor and camera than the slightly smaller Zenfone 5.
We think the Zenfone 5 phone is pretty great, especially as it starts at just £150. The Zenfone 6 is a slightly tricker proposition as its size introduces a few usability issues, and it costs a fair bit more at £250 without 4G. But it’s ultimately a solid phone in almost every respect, and a good deal if you don’t mind about having a brand on the back your friends might turn their noses up at.

Stunning Nexus 6 specs and facts 'revealed' in all their glory
Call it the Nexus 6, call it the Nexus X, call it the Shamu, call it whatever you want, the fact is that while we have many names for Google's new smartphone we don't have a huge number of details as yet.
But a new report from 9to5Google reiterates a few of them and fills in some gaps, as the site claims that the Nexus 6 will have a 5.92-inch 2560 x 1440 display with a pixel density of 498 pixels per inch and the processor will apparently be a Snapdragon 805 coupled with 3GB of RAM.

Samsung Galaxy S5 review
Key Features: 16-megapixel camera; 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen; Android 4.4 with TouchWiz
Manufacturer: Samsung
The Galaxy S5 is Samsung's flagship phone for 2014 and more than 10 million units were shifted in its first month on sale. Is it a success? Certainly in terms of sales figures it's right up there.
Should we get carried away by sales numbers alone? A phone should stand on its merits and the Galaxy S5 has made some important improvements to certain key areas over the Galaxy S4. The screen and camera are significantly better than those on last year's model.

Is this Samsung's first selfie phone?
The world is going selfie mad so it's about time Samsung
joined the craze - and the Galaxy Grand Prime is seemingly the phone
it's going to use to do it.
The selfie-centric phone was leaked by Vietnamese site thegioididong.com, which both posted pictures and revealed some apparent specs. Those include a 5.0-inch 540 x 960 display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM.

iPhone 6 Camera: A photographer's perspective
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have landed and some have proclaimed that the new Apple smartphones offer something new for photographers to be excited about. Personally, I’m not really that impressed about Apple’s latest handsets or the hype around “Focus Pixels” and “Tone Mapping” and here's why.
In truth, not much. The improvements to the new iSight camera seem to be restricted almost exclusively to processor and software updates allowing for improved colour reproduction and noise handling algorithms. The only hardware improvements we’re getting here are Optical Image Stabilisation (available on the iPhone 6 Plus only) and a new sensor that uses “Focus Pixels”, otherwise known to the rest of the world as on-chip phase detection autofocus, which focuses twice as fast as their previous generation sensor according to the tech giants from Cupertino.

iPhone 6 vs iPhone 6 Plus: Apple's two latest smartphones go head to head
It's been a long time since Apple was under this much
pressure to impress with a new iPhone. After last year's rather
straightforward upgrade, the Cupertino company needed something special,
and something to fight back against the moves being made by its rivals.
The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are Apple's counter-punches, but how do they stack up against each other? And which one should you be spending your cash on?

Sony Xperia Z3 first impressions
Sony's only gone and done it again. Made a phone, let the
paint dry, sold it to the masses, then make another one. The Z was
followed instantly by the Z1, which was shadowed by the Z2 a few months
later at MWC... and now, in what feels like three sleeps later, the Z3
is here.
But, apart from the fact it's going to confuse consumers and annoy those that finally decided to make the jump to the Z2, only to find it's been usurped as the best Sony phone around, the Xperia Z3 is actually pretty darned impressive.

iPhone 6 first impressions
The some, the attraction of the masses to Apple devices is
almost unfathomable. The iPhone has never been one of the most powerful
handsets in the world, nor the smallest / largest, and yet seven years
later it has retained (and grown) its unshakeable following.
However, in the last 18 months, the death knells have started quietly sounding, ringing in the distance as the best Android phones – once only a rival on spec or price – became genuine challengers and then out-and-out better handsets.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini review
Key Features: 4.5-inch 720p HD display with 326 ppi; 8-megapixel camera; Micro SIM; 4G support; Bluetooth 4.0; 16GB storage; 1.5GB RAM; 1080p HD video recording; Android 4.4.2 KitKat; Exynos Quadcore 3470 1.4GHz; 2,100 MAh battery; 2.1-Megapixel front-facing camera
Manufacturer: Samsung
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is a 4.5-inch Android phone that's essentially the Galaxy S5 in a smaller body.
Much like the S3 and S4 Mini. It looks like the S5, retains most of the flagship's new features, but it does make some compromises. It doesn't have a Full HD screen and it lacks the S5's impressive camera — two of the S5's best features. There are better value phones out there, but the S5 Mini is a step from from the S4 Mini.
